On the 10th of February a group of
students of Riga Pardaugava school and coordinator of Erasmus + project
Ludmilla Renge visited the Roma history and art museum and Roma Cultural
Center. They were warmly met by President of International Romani Union
Normund Rudevich.
Normund Rudevich told us about roma history. We learnt how the first Roma
appeared and when they arrived to Latvia, about glorious and sad moments of
this nation. Surprisingly, many world famous people such as mother Mother
Teresa, Elvis Presley, Charlie Chaplin were roma.
Students asked questions about Roma’ life nowadays and got acquainted with
the only in the world Roma History and art museum exhibition.
It
is a museum of the Romani nation. Presented here are artistic and literary
creations of the only famous Romani artist Karlis Rudevich.
No one knows the history of the Roma. Few can imagine the past and present
lives of one of the most ancient and mysterious Tribes representing the
planet's Civilization.
Roma have not found their Land. Roma have not created their state. Through
the centuries, they followed their uneasy path towards the sun. They never
fought. They never captured. They never pillaged.
Their genesis and life were almost always marked by creativity, joy and
freedom.
In their history there are few dark days of grief. But such days exist. The
museum exhibits materials of "Mudaripen" - the Holocaust of the Roma.
In addition to their skies and their guitars the Roma have their own
literary language. Books for children and adults are written and published
in it; a dictionary of the Romani language was compiled and published as
well as Romani alphabet. The Bible was translated and printed in Romani
language. Additionally the museum presents unique books and magazines, where
Romani tales, legends and fairy tales are carefully collected.
